PROPER 28-Gospel
TEXT: Matthew 25:14-30
TITLE: Give an Account

After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them.”
                                                                                                                         Matt.25:19

The Bible says, “Each of you will give an account.” Three servants in the text were to give their master an account of that which they were given to manage (in this case-money). Two servant’s accounts were good, one servant’s was bad. Imagine what some of our accounts might be that day we’re called to give an account…
“Lord, I thought all those things were mine and I could do as I pleased with them.”
“Lord, you know I really did have tough Mondays through Saturdays, and Sunday was my day to sleep in.”
“Lord, I’m speechless! I spent my entire life convincing myself you didn’t exist.”
“Lord, is it too late to say I’m sorry for wasting all the gifts and talents You gave me?”

I believe there will also be some who say something to this effect:
“Lord, you blessed me richly with spiritual and temporal blessings. I taught my family about You, worked at my job and provided for their spiritual and temporal needs. I do know I couldn’t have done even what I did without Your Spirit’s help. Yet, I know I’ve also mismanaged many things; I deserve death. I’ve no excuse. I look to Your forgiveness through Jesus.”

By God’s grace and promise, we can believe He will say something to the affect-“Well done good and faithful servant. Come and share Your Master’s happiness.”

Dear Heavenly Father, help me be a faithful steward of all the gifts and talents You’ve given me, in Jesus Name, Amen.
