David and Rachel Baker have answered a very special calling to serve as Human Care Workers in Kazakhstan, doing evangelism and church-planting among the Kazakh Muslim people. After living for five years in Almaty and Astana, they moved to Taldykorgan. Taldytorgan is a smaller city, though still an important one. It is in the center of the Almaty region of southeastern Kazakhstan. Their teammates, Amy and Marat Kashenov, live in Almaty. They work together with the Bakers, reaching out to the Kazakh Muslim people with God's love.
David has two sisters: Rebecca Stehle is a Lutheran school teacher working in Portland, Oregon, and his younger sister, Victoria, is still in college. Rachel grew up in the Philippines where her father and mother, Pastor Robert and Penny Selle, were missionaries for 15 years. She has two brothers: Benjamin is an entertainment coordinator in California, and David is a civil engineer.
David and Rachel have three children. Julia was born on January 10, 2003 and is presently being homeschooled. Timothy was born on November 17, 2004 and Daniel arrived on October 3, 2007.
Please pray for the Kazakh people, that God would open their hearts to the message of the Gospel. Pray also for the Bakers as they build relationships and open their home to their new friends and neighbors. Pray that God would work powerfully among the people of Kazakhstan!
